Berlin is considered one of the most diverse cities in Germany. It is a popular destination for tourists from all over the world, particularly because of its culture and rich history. At the beginning of June, with the support of our Bachner Foundation, the three scholarship holders George Onyango, John Cherfils and Salam Camara set off by bus for a weekend in the capital. Salam Camara is the Foundation’s newest scholarship holder. He comes from Senegal and is working towards completing his B2 language certificate in German this year. <\/p>\n
On the bus ride from Munich to Berlin, the three young men discovered more of Germany. Alongside the beautiful nature, which especially caught Salam’s eye, they rode through cities like Ingolstadt, Nuremberg and Bayreuth.<\/p>\n

In Berlin itself, the three Bachner Foundation scholarship holders took in some of the sights that the city has to offer \u2013 there were plenty to choose from. “As a Foundation, we thought it was important for the three of them to learn more about Germany and its history \u2013 that was our condition for supporting the trip,” explained Sabine Bachner. “George, John and Salam were sent to see sights like the Reichstag building, the Berlin Wall and the Holocaust Memorial and write a travel report afterwards. We did this because our goal is not only to improve their German skills, but also to give them the opportunity to learn more about the country in which they live.\u201d <\/p>\n

The scholarship holders diligently fulfilled their assignment, which included a boat trip on the Spree River past the Reichstag, Museum Island and other historical sites. All three remarked on the different architectural styles in East and West Berlin. All in all, the three Bachner Foundation scholarship holders enjoyed the trip very much and were able to learn a lot about Germany, as they all wrote in their travel reports. <\/p>\n
